One thing that I have found limiting about tables for toy wooden trains is that the pre-made variety that you can purchase through various websites are all of a very generic shape and size. There is no option to customize these commercial products and therefore I’ve generally opted for just playing on the floor.
Playing with wooden train toys on the floor however can create it’s own set of issues. First of all floors in most older homes are not precisely even and things like bridges and overpasses can fall down easily. Another issue is that the older us parents get, the harder it becomes to get down on the floor and play with our kids for extended periods of time.
All of this can be solved by building your own train table. For me, this can take the joy of playing with wooden train toys to a whole new level. Extreme custom layouts are still possible when you build the train table to meet your wooden track layout style.
